]]>We’ll have you feeling like a firework!
]]>This definition explains the basic principle of what outerwear is, but doesn’t take into account the different looks, styles, or color options that come with what someone chooses to wear. Outwear is supposed to add something to the outfit that is underneath. It should bring another dimension to what the wearer has chosen to put on for that day. If you’re wearing a cocktail dress, most likely you wouldn’t put a windbreaker over that. You’d choose something that adds to the ensemble, not something that drags it down. Great outerwear also, in its most basic form, is supposed to protect you from the element. This is the basic purpose and usually why you choose to wear it in the first place. Whether for warmth or to shield you from a storm of some sort.
That is what you’ll find with any of our fur coats! They’re ready for any event or trip and come in a variety of colors and styles that are certain to add an extra something to whatever you choose to wear underneath. Perfect to keep you warm and dry from the Winter cold, the Summer storms or the dropping temperatures that are around the corner in Fall – great all year round and are certain to be a favorite in your closets.
Purple, red, green, blue, or a multitude of other color options are what you can expect to find in our showroom. We are definitely fans of the fun colored furs. With the 4th of July right around the corner, we figured this was the perfect time to show off our favorite Red, White, and Blue pieces that we have in stock. From strollers to vests to capes and almost everything in between, we’ve got a ton of patriotic choices! We’ll have you feeling like a firework!
RED
Starting off with this super fun Fire Engine Red Sheared Mink Stoller with Dyed Fox Trim and Cuffs. Great for adding a pop of color to any basic outfit and to make a classy, sophisticated statement.
Next, is the Red Mink & Rex Coat which is also an awesome choice to add a fun pop to any outfit. This one is lighter weight and quite versatile – dress it up or down depending on the occasion. It's sure to be a crowd favorite wherever its worn!
WHITE
Check out this gorgeous Ivory cashmere and wool blend Cape with fox trim that has this incredible hood. A wonderful item to keep you warm while also being stylish and sophisticated – perfect to be thrown over any and every outfit you put on, in every season.
Following that item, is this fabulous White Dyed Lamb Vest. Such a simple piece yet makes such a statement. This is another one that can be dressed up or down depending on your style – from rocker chic to a bohemian goddess and anything in between! This is one of our favorites and even comes in pink, as well!
The final piece of our patriotic journey through fun colored furs is concluding with this gorgeous Blue Sheared Mink with Black Sheared Beaver Trim Jacket. An elegant choice for any gala or black-tie event that may be happening during some of the colder months of the year.
Finally, the Blue Rexx Zipper Front Diagonal Jacket – we’re not lying when we say it feels even softer than it looks! For a bit more casual of a look this jacket is perfect! Comfy and fashionable all wrapped into one.

There are numerous misconceptions when it comes to how furs should be stored – the “correct” way people thought to do this has changed over the years and a number of myths about fur storage have circulated due to this, more to come on that later. But, we’re here to set the record straight – the most important step to keeping a fur in great condition: Cold Storage. Once the season is over and its time to put your fur away, be sure to safely store it in a cold storage facility (like the one we have on site). This will elongate the life span of your fur and ensure it is properly taken care of.
A cold storage facility should encompass all of these characteristics, as specified by the Fur Information Council of America:
At LaBelle Since 1919, we ensure all of the previously mentioned criteria for our cold storage vault to ensure we provide the utmost optimal climate for your furs.
Great question! Everyone has a different way they’ve heard to keep their fur – many will say “well I have a cedar closet” or “moth balls should keep the pests away” or “it should be fine hanging in my closet in a garment bag”. While we appreciate the efforts that people are taking to preserve the fur – all of these are incorrect and can lead to destroying the fur all together. So, we’re here to explain why these are wrong and ways in which you can make smarter choices to protect your items.
The biggest myth that we hear the most often is when people mention storing their piece in a cedar closet. They think this is the safest and best place for them due to the moisture absorption quality of cedar. While cedar does absorb moisture, what they don’t think about is the fact that while it is absorbing the moisture out of the air, it is also absorbing the natural moisture from the fur or leather piece that is hanging in the closet. This can lead to depleting the fur or leather from the necessary moisture it needs to keep it looking and feeling its best. Once these natural oils are gone, the deterioration process speeds up and will leave your garment completely dried out, tearing as though it is made of tissue paper, and ultimately unwearable forever.
Although its been said that moth balls will keep pests away and absorb moisture for the items they’re kept with, do not store your furs with them. They are made from a dangerous chemical called Naphthalene which is derived from coal tar. Needless to say, this is not good for your health nor the health of your piece. Similar to the cedar closet, moth balls will absorb moisture but when they do, it releases a gas which fumigates the fur. This fumigation process can be detrimental to a fur and cause damage which is unable to ever be repaired. On top of that, moth balls can also be fatal in ingested by pets or children – overall, just keep moth balls out of the house and away from your fur altogether
For travel or short periods of time, garment bags are perfectly fine to use to protect your furs. The issue comes when they’re kept in a garment bag for an extended period of time. Bags made from plastic are the worst due to their restriction of airflow to your piece, which overtime will cause the drying out process to speed up and have you end up with irreparable damage to your fur. Fabric bags are slightly better since they can be more breathable. Although, if kept in there for a long period of time the bag can cause hair breakage where its resting on the fur and make the fur appear worn in those spots.
The perks of cold storage can be supported by science and how the cold effects molecules. As we learned as kids, the colder something is the slower the molecules move. This is the biggest reason why cold storage is the best place for a fur to be kept. Why, you might ask? Because the slower moving molecules means less molecular activity which ultimately means a slower deterioration process – the molecules aren’t able to move as fast as they usually would be in a room temperature environment.
This begs the question, why not just freeze it when it isn’t being worn? Why have it just cold? This goes back to another principle that we all learned as kids – when something is frozen, it expands. Thus, if we were to freeze a fur the molecules of natural oils would expand, then when it’s thawed that would contract. This process of repeated expanding and contracting over and over again throughout many seasons can cause the molecules to stretch and tear which means a faster deterioration process, rather than an assumed slower one. The cold however slows down the evaporation process of the natural oils keeping your fur soft and pristine year after year.
Were you a believer of some of these myths? Do you now see the benefits of having furs in cold storage? Do you have additional questions or concerns that we may be able to clear up for you? Are you ready to have us take your fur and put into our on-site vault for safe keeping? If you answered yes, then be sure to visit our website https://labellesince1919.com/pages/fur-storage or give us a call (407-422-3565) so we can discuss the cold storage process that we have and can assist you with being a part of it.

We are super excited to launch Emerging Designer project called Orlando Fur Competition. We are looking to select a designer to collaborate with to create our own collection to be revealed this fall during our 100 year anniversary celebration. Yes, you heard it right. 100 years in business! We are very proud to be one of the oldest family owned and operated businesses in Orlando.
People always are surprised to learn that we are in fur business. Furs in Florida? Its too hot to wear furs, they say... well, they are so wrong about that...
]]>People always are surprised to learn that we are in fur business. Furs in Florida? Its too hot to wear furs, they say... well, they are so wrong about that... first of all, we do more than just sell furs.. we offer services such as repairs, alterations, restyling, cold storage, cleaning. These are services that you can not so easily find. If you take your fur to dry cleaner for cleaning, you will learn the hard way that they have no knowledge to clean furs. Most likely, they will ruin it by applying heat to fur skin and damaging it. That is when they contact us but unfortunately by then it is very expensive to repair. If you take your fur for alterations to a seamstress, she may tell you that she knows how to work with fur. However, at the end of the day, you will most likely call us to re-do it since she, as we call it, "butchered" it. We have re-done many jackets that have been ruined by seamstresses. Seamstresses are not trained or have knowledge to work with fur, or have proper equipment to work with fur. Don't make that mistake and only let professional furrier to service your fur.
Fur industry is small and we all know each other and most have been in business for generations. We are like a big family. Skills to work with furs and leathers are very different. So is equipment and training. It is true craftsmanship that is very rare these days. We work not only with customers in Orlando, but we also provide services to many customers around the country. Did you know that furs can last for generations and can be restyled and redesigned whenever necessary? Our Restyle Your Fur division specializes in remaking vintage furs. We love the memories and family heirlooms we create. It is the most rewarding experience.
Secondly, and most importantly, I want to discuss "image" of fur and idea behind our fur designer competition. I feel like when people think of fur coats, they think of long, down to floor full length coats. That was definitely a case back in days when big hair was also popular. Just check out our ad recently sent in to us by a customer from 1980's.
Today they might be considered out of fashion, but we call them Classics. There are people who love classic look and you may agree or disagree but classics never go out of style. We still have customers coming searching for classic vintage coat. They are still popular even 20-30 years later. That can not be said about other products.
However, industry and product selection has changed. Focus has become to deliver products that are fashion forward, light weight, fun, and versatile that can be worn in many different climates. And, yes, there are furs you can wear even in Orlando. I, myself, can attest for that. I love my vests and fur trimmed capes that are perfect for Florida winters. I will wear my rexx rabbit vest at early morning soccer game during the Florida winter. It keeps me warm while others are bundled up in blankets in their folding chairs. Best part is, I get many compliments. It is not only warm, but also beautiful and can be worn casually with jeans and boots... even on soccer fields in Florida.
With this emerging designer competition we want to show you that there is more than you think when you hear word "furs". There is a lot more. Fur is not outdated as you may think. Instead, it is fashion. Fur is timeless fashion. Fur was featured during Paris Fashion Week for Fall 2019 Trends.
Fur is eco friendly, easily biodegradable.
Today, people buy new clothes frequently. New season, new fashion, new products. However, fur products last for many years. Even many generations.
We hope to show you different side of fur industry that you didn't know existed. We want to show you that fur can be worn in Florida and is fashionable. We hope you will fall in love with fur as much as we do!
Follow us to be invited to Fashion show revealing our 2019 collection designed for Florida Fashionistas in collaboration with a talented local designer we will be selecting to work with on July 13th.
